Volume 105, Issue 2, Pages 524-533 (February 1994) Two Studies of the Clinical Effectiveness of the Nicotine Patch With Different Counseling Treatments  Michael C. Fiore, M.D., Susan L. Kenford, B.S., Douglas E. Jorenby, Ph.D., David W. Wetter, M.S., Stevens S. Smith, Ph.D., Timothy B. Baker, Ph.D.  CHEST  Volume 105, Issue 2, Pages 524-533 (February 1994) DOI: 10.1378/chest.105.2.524 Copyright © 1994 The American College of Chest Physicians Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 End-of-treatment (S week) and 6-month abstinence rates (point prevalence) and time to relapse (survival functions) for study 1. Statistical results. Efficacy (point prevalence): end of treatment χ2(1) = 3.33, p < 0.05; 6-month χ2(1) = 1.89, p = 0.08. Survival analysis: Wilcoxon χ2(1) = 5.59. p < 0.02; log-rank χ2(1) = 4.33, p < 0.05. Note that percentages are not directly comparable between the two graphs due to slightly different definitions of abstinence.
