Butterfly Lifecycles
Stage 1: The Egg Butterfly moms lay eggs on leaves. They can lay up to 300 eggs The egg stage lasts about 6 days.
Stage 2: Caterpillar Begins eating immediately First eats own eggshell Eats lots of leaves Lasts about 11 days
Caterpillar Growth Caterpillars grow very fast. If you grew that fast when you were a baby, you would weigh 8 tons. That’s as much as a big dinosaur.
Stage 3: Pupa The caterpillar become a pupa covered by a hard shell called a chrysalis. The pupa hangs from the stem of a plant. This change takes about a week.
Stage 4: Adult The caterpillars’ organs and body parts dissolve. The butterfly emerges with wings folded. It pumps blood into its wings. It is now ready to fly. Butterfly lifecycle
Metamorphosis A butterfly’s life is divided into four stages. Its body changes a lot. All the changes the butterfly goes through in its life are called its metamorphosis.
