“Villanueva de las Cruces”
Villanueva de las Cruces is a small village with 400 habitants more less. It´s in the centre of Huelva, in Andalucía (Spain). It´s 65 kms far of the province's capital. This village is part off a mine region. Near of this village, we can find Tharsis and Riotinto, wich are miner villages.
Traditions San Sebastian is the most important festivity of our village. We celebrate it the near weekend of the 20 of January, in honour of our pattern San Sebastian.
We turn on a huge fire, wich is turn on two weeks more less. Here, we can see 15 men dancing a traditional dance, wich is call “la danza de los garrotes”. They dance all the San Sebastian´s procession.
We celebrate our “romeria”, the first weekend of May. This party is in honour of Santa María de la Cruz. In this party, people ride horses, dance “sevillanas” and enjoy together three days.
In October, we do the “small romería”. People go to the “Recuero” (The place where we celebrate the romeria), and stay there all the day. We dance sevillanas, ride our horses…
