Number and Calculations This maths morning is all about understanding numbers and solving calculations! We are focussing on addition. Next term we will be holding another maths morning- covering other areas of maths.
Strategies we teach….. Important to follow the same strategies at home as we do in school. Children can become extremely confused. Can undo all the hard work they have achieved in class.
Concrete Approach Children are first taught the concrete approach Counters bead strings denes
Pictorial Approach Once children understand the concrete approach we teach the pictorial approach.
Abstract Approach Addition Can you add 25 and 29. 29 + 25 = 20 + 20 = 40 9 + 5 = 14 40 + 14 = 54 We teach this method so that the children understand the concept of tens and ones.
