Idaho College Application Week November 6 – 10, 2017 All Government classes to the computer lab Opportunity to complete one college application for all Idaho colleges for FREE!! Will also have a task list that will include applying for scholarships, researching majors, creating FAFSA ID, etc.

What is FAFSA? FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid Helps pay for higher education (i.e., college, career school, grad school) Covers tuition, fees, room/board, books/supplies, and transportation Three categories: grants, work-study, and loans Who gets federal student aid? Every student who meets certain eligibility requirements can get some type of federal aid, regardless of age or family income. How do I apply? #1… Create a FAFSA ID (confirms your identity and enables you to sign your documents electronically)  Go to StudentAid.gov/fsaid #2…Complete the FAFSA application at fafsa.gov  You’ll be able to submit a 2018-19 FAFSA beginning October 1st!  Your parents will use their 2016 income and tax information  Schools use FAFSA information to award nonfederal aid #3… Review your Student Aid Report (or SAR).  Make sure everything you reported is accurate  The SAR usually includes a number used to determine your eligibility for financial aid Whew, right??

ACT Test Information Next available test is October 28th Register by September 22nd Cost is $46.00 (no writing) or $62.50 (w/writing) Register at www.actstudent.org MHS code = 130390 Tests students in Math, English, Reading & Science. Highest score is a 36 composite… average is 22.

SAT Test Information Next available test is November 4th Register by October 5th Cost $46 (no essay) or $60 (w/essay) Register at www.collegeboard.com Tests students in Math, Critical Reading and Language. A perfect score is 1600 (math score + reading/language) (a score of 1220 is the equivalent of a 27 on the ACT)

Transcripts Transcript request forms can be found in the counseling office. “Official transcript” = sealed and mailed to the schools/program indicated on your form. “Unofficial transcript” = not sealed and can be given directly to you.

How do I get a letter of recommendation? Choose a teacher who knows you! Create a resume or brag sheet. Ask teacher or counselor verbally to write the letter. Make sure to give them the resume. Give them a stamped envelope if needed and other information needed for task. Make sure to give the teacher plenty of time to write the letter at least 2 weeks.
