Some important Twitter terms to know
Hashtags Are Powerful The hashtag is a favorite tool of conferences and event organizers – and it’s also a way for Twitter users to organize among themselves Use them to track conversations and see what people are saying Because of the character limit, hashtags became very important as shorthand to share information on the same topic
Anatomy of a Tweet A tweet can look like it’s written in a foreign language, but if you break it down it all starts to make sense.
AFSCME’s Twitter page, and a sample tweet using hashtags and a shortened link. AFSCME uses a custom domain name for bit.ly links (afsc.me) but that’s not necessary.
Most Twitter Followers Pop culture icons have a lot of followers on Twitter, but politicians and advocacy organizations make a dent as well. @HillaryClinton has 7.15M followers. @BernieSanders has 2.68M. @realDonaldTrump has 9.37M.
Ellen’s selfie from the Oscars in 2014 is the top retweeted post. Obama’s photo is #6 and holding.
When you only have 140 characters, a picture is worth more than 1000 words.
