5th Grade 2016 2017 #S3+M=DT

Homeroom Conferences Each Teacher will be meeting with their homeroom parents this Fall. If you would like a meeting with all 3 teachers please contact your homeroom teacher., and she will schedule one for you. Parents will be able to sign up online for a conference time that is convenient for them. We will be using Sign Up Genius. There is a link on our Teacher Webpage. Of course, we are always available by email

Please make every effort to have your child at school every day. If your child is absent, a note is required upon their return.  We request all notes be brought within 48 hours of the student’s return to school. Unexcused absences over 3 consecutive days will result in a letter from the DA office.

Classroom Consequences for Undesired Behavior 0–Excellent! Yeah! 1-2 Satisfactory 3–4 Needs Improvement 5+ Unsatisfactory The student’s 9 week conduct grades will be based on the number of marks they earned in each class weekly. any office referral results in a conduct letter drop. This will start over each 9 weeks.

Breakfast is served from 8:20 AM to 8:40 AM. Parents may pre-pay student meal costs on www.parentonline.net Parents/guardians and grandparents are welcome to join their child for lunch at our special guest tables. 5th & 6th Graders may choose to skip their recess to have more time to eat.

A Homework Folder will be sent home every day. It may include: Read 20 minutes every night Complete Vocabulary or Word Study assignments not completed during class time. Complete math assignments and/or online lesson Complete Social Studies activity if applicable Homework is written in their planners and is due each day

Numerical Grading Scale: B 80-89 C 75-79 D 70-74 69 and below F * Correct and Return

Homework: may be averaged as 1 daily grade Major Grades – 60% Daily Grades - 40% Homework: may be averaged as 1 daily grade Late work: 1 day-10pts 2 days–20pts 3 days–grade of Zero

Writing: (writing process) Focus on the integration of reading and writing connection. Quick writes in writing journals Writing major pieces : imaginative, personal narrative, expository, and persuasive. Stressing revising & editing

Reading: Combination of mini lessons and reader’s workshop Practice reading at home for at least 20 minutes!! Word Study and Vocabulary alternate see website Students will be expected to write responses in their literacy notebooks weekly. These will be grade 3 times a nine weeks, and combined as one major grade. Students are challenged to read 40 books this year.

Birthdays Birthdays may be celebrated in the Cafeteria by either purchasing ice cream passes for the entire class or bringing a sweet treat to share Birthday Guidelines 1. Communicate with classroom teachers in advance to avoid more than one celebration on a specific day. 2. Provide individual treats ( no prizes) that can be easily served. 3. Parents will distribute treats the last 10 minutes of the lunch time. 4. Only students in the birthday child’s homeroom receive treats. 5. Due to confidentiality, no photos are to be taken of your child with other children. 6. District safety guidelines prohibit helium balloons in our building. *Please only send birthday party invitations with your child to school if each classmate, or all boys or all girls are invited.
