Oxfam Farmer’s Brigade 1987 This journey in 1987 began an admiration and love of the Latino people, who had struggled for generations to improve their lives. With modern equipment and training from Canadian farmers like myself, these campesinos were able to improve production on their farms which improved their standard of living in the process.

Esteli English School 2012 I returned in 2012 and started teaching English as a second language to a group of people in Esteli. I really enjoyed it and promised to return. Now we have over 100 students in our school, and are making great strides in helping these people improve their job skills with the addition of English to their lives.

Brigades Esteli English School has evolved to include medical and dental brigades in its package of services. We now work with dentists, doctors, and medical personnel from four countries. In the picture I’m assisting in the surgical ward in Zuru, Nigeria, my first medical brigade in Africa. EES has continued to grow and now is a registered Canadian charity. I never would have imagined that a small step in 1987 would bring me to this incredible point in my life.
