Dicus Born in Festus, Mo 1888 Moved to north Indiana and grew up 1908 was married and was baptized Made a vow, “If the Lord will allow me to get an education, I will use it in service to the Lord.” Started studying to be a minister and a scientist Went from teaching a rural one-room school to instructor in a large Technical High School 1918 He stopped teaching to invent the turn signal for automobiles

A.W. Dicus 1922 Recession caused his turn signal business to end, and he sold rights to it to his financial partner Started preaching at a large church in Bloomington, IN; went to Univ. of Indiana and earned B.Science and M.A. degrees Invited to work at Tennessee Tech Physics Dept. in 1929 Supported by churches where he preached 1940’s work on atomic physics with Oak Ridge

A.W. Dicus 1949 He was asked to be Academic Dean at Florida College Achieved accreditation Wife died Married second wife Flora in 1953; big influence on his songwriting Retired in 1954 Wrote 3 books: Sermon Outlines, Commentary on Hebrews and Romans, and Church Leadership

A.W. Dicus Wrote 35 songs in spite of poor eyesight April 8, 1966 issue of Time Magazine asked, “Is God Dead?” Brother Dicus wrote, “Our God, He is Alive”, Later wrote, “Lord, I Believe” As a scientist he had a special perspective Recognized God’s order in creation He studied God’s creation Psalm 19:1-6 He studied God’s revelation Psalm 19:7-14

Our God, He Is Alive There is, beyond the azure blue, A God, concealed from human sight. He tinted skies with heav’nly hue, And framed the worlds with His great might Ex.33:20-23 Heb. 11:1-3
