Sparsely-of few and scattered elements; not thickly grown or settled Blackout-a period when lights are kept off to guard against enemy airplane attack in a war Rucksack-knapsack; back pack Compassionate-showing sorrow or pity for the suffering or misfortune of another Capitulation-to surrender, usually on terms agreed upon in advance

Portly-heavy of body; stout Conspicuous-easily seen Reserved-cautious in word and actions Mercurial-characterized by rapid and unpredictable change of mood Unabashed-not easily embarrassed

Loathe-to feel extreme disgust for Intolerable-not tolerable; unbearable Insufferable-impossible to endure; intolerable Coeducational-education of male and female students at the same school Scoffingly-to express something with scorn or mockery

Meticulous-extremely or overly careful in small details Deported-to force a person who is not a citizen to leave a country Subdued-to bring under control Disgruntled-to put into a bad mood Onslaught-a violent attack
