Practical Applications on Biblical Principles. How I Should Treat My Fellow Man
Three Ways to Treat Someone. 1. Fairly/Equal 2. Patiently 3. Lovingly 1 Pet. 3: 8-12 – 8. Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9. not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. 10. For “ He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile; 11. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. 12. For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And his ears are open to their prayers; But the face off the LORD is against those who do evil.”
Fairly/Equal “…not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling..” Treat everyone equally no matter where they come from, what they have done, the position they are in. To not do so is a sin against the law. -Jas. 2:9 Favoritism shouldn’t be a thing even within the Church. Need to be Humble and Christ- like. - Phil. 2: 3-5 Ex. Preference on who to heed advice or take words into consideration.
With Full Commitment. “…he must turn from evil and do good. He must seek peace and pursue it.” To love is to show commitment and to know God. -1 John 4: 19- 21 To show commitment to your brother is to show commitment to GOD fully. 1 John 4: 7-8 Because he tells us that the time is now. – Rom. 13: 11
Patiently “… be tenderhearted, be courteous…” With patience comes humility and gentleness. Being grateful and anxious for nothing, even when we go to GOD in prayer. Phil. 4:4-7 When you are patient, you don’t always speak what is on your mind.
Being patient and gentle includes taming the tongue. James 3: 1-12,5: 7-9 Being patient and gentle includes taming the tongue. Taming the tongue includes not lashing out at every little thing or speaking your thoughts at all times. Also teaching someone requires a measure of gentleness and patience. How far would you actually get if someone saw you acting contrary to this and what would they think of Christians that would act like this? God’s work would be hindered greatly.
Love “… love as brothers…” The worlds view of love V.S. God’s view of love. Worldly Definition- a strong feeling of attachment or emotion; a deep affection. –Merriam Webster. God’s Definition is similar yet the application is profoundly different. -Mat. 22:37-40 Sometimes it is easier to love someone you don’t know as well. It is not a new concept. It is just a drastically distorted one.-1 John 3:11 Someone who sees a person in need and doesn’t help him is no better than anyone else in the world. He doesn’t have God’s love. -1 John 3:16-18
Love Characteristics of Love. -1 Cor. 13: 4-8 Love is patient/suffers long. –This means that no matter what we are put through or how much we are tested, we continue to love. Love is kind. – If we have God’s love, we are friendly, generous, and considerate by nature. Love does not boast – Love does not put itself up above others. It is humble. Love is not proud.- Love is not self- centered Love does not envy. –To envy is to covet something someone else has. But to be loving, we must be selfless. Love is not rude. –Love is patient.
Love Love is not easily angered. –We need to control our tempers. We cannot lash out at anything that pushes our buttons. Love thinks no evil. –In partnership with not being easily angered, we need to be forgiving and refrain from even thinking bad things. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. –Even if we don’t think and do bad things, when we see them happen, we cannot be pleased. We need to see the good things and rejoice in them. Love bears all things. –Love is a support in times of need. Even to those who are not Christian.
love Love believes all things. –Love is not constantly suspicious or doubting of others. It is trusting. Love hopes all things. –Love yearns for good things to happen and does its best to make sure those things happen. Love endures all things. –Love has withstood the test of time. Love never fails in its duty. Love never ends
Our reward “… that you may inherit a blessing…” The point of doing these three things, being fair, patient, and loving, is our reward at the end of the road. God says that his kingdom is coming soon. We can earn the blessings of God if we do his commandments. However that isn’t the only reason. We also do this because God loved us and we love him for doing what he did, which was give up his son to die on a cross for our sins so that we could be saved. –John 3:16
