1 Peter 3:8-12

8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For, “Whoever would love life     and see good days must keep their tongue from evil     and their lips from deceitful speech.

11 They must turn from evil and do good;     they must seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous     and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Prov 12:18 Rash words pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Prov 13:3 Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives; those who open wide their lips come to ruin. Prov 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Eph 5:4 Entirely out of place is obscene, silly, and vulgar talk; but instead, let there be thanksgiving.

WORDS SHOW US TO BE UNCLEAN James 3:1-2,8 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.  We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check… but no one can tame the tongue - a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

WORDS SHOW US TO BE UNCLEAN James 3:9-12 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.  Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and bitter water flow from the same spring?  Can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
