Tigris River BACK The Tigris River has its source in Turkey. It flows east through Iraq where it joins the Euphrates River to form the Shatt-al-Arab, which then flows into the Persian Gulf.

Euphrates River BACK Fast Facts: 2,781 kilometers (1,730 miles) long Developed since 4000 B.C. Due to terrain river floods easily Empties into the Persian Gulf Annual flow of 990 billion cubic feet The Euphrates River has its source in Turkey. It flows east through Syria and then through Iraq where it joins the Tigris River to form the Shatt-al-Arab, near the Persian Gulf.

Jordan River BACK The Jordan River is the river with the lowest elevation in the world. It rises on the slopes of Mount Hermon, on the Syrian-Lebanese border, flows southward through northern Israel to the Sea of Galilee, and then divides Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank on the west from Jordan on the east before emptying into the Dead Sea at an elevation of about 1,312 feet below sea level. The Jordan is more than 223 miles in length, but, because its course is meandering, the actual distance between its source and the Dead Sea is less than 124 miles.

Suez Canal BACK Click on the Pictures ! It is an artificial waterway running north to south across the Isthmus of Suez in northeastern Egypt; it connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Gulf of Suez, an arm of the Red Sea. The canal provides a shortcut for ships operating between both European and American ports and ports located in southern Asia, eastern Africa, and Oceania.

Persian Gulf BACK Click on the either picture for a Gulf War Timeline The Persian Gulf lies to the north of Saudi Arabia and to the south of Iran. It is described as an arm of the Arabian Sea between the Arabian Peninsula and southwest Iran. It has been an important trade route since ancient times and gained added strategic significance after the discovery of oil in the Gulf States in the 1930s.

Doesn’t that look like a dolphin? Strait of Hormuz BACK Doesn’t that look like a dolphin? Located between Oman and Iran, the Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Hormuz is the world's most important oil chokepoint due to its daily oil flow of 16.5-17 million barrels, which is roughly 20 percent of oil traded worldwide. The majority of oil exported through the Strait of Hormuz travels to Asia, the United States and Western Europe.

Arabian Sea BACK Click on Picture The Arabian Sea is part of the Indian Ocean. It is located between the Arabian Peninsula and India.

Red Sea The Red Sea separates the Arabian Peninsula from Africa. BACK Click on the Pictures ! The Red Sea separates the Arabian Peninsula from Africa.

Gaza Strip BACK Click on the RED circle to see what the CIA World Factbook has to say about the Gaza Strip The Gaza Strip is a coastal strip of land located in the country of Israel along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea that borders Egypt.
