GPM Visits Summer Camps and Libraries The GPM Education Specialists, Dorian Janney and Kristen Weaver, have been busy this summer, sharing information about the satellite mission and hands-on activities with kids at libraries and summer camps. Activities ranged from students building their own rain gauges and learning how the GPM satellite measures precipitation from space, to building towers as tall as possible that could withstand a simulated hurricane, to learning about NASA and STEM careers. Camp visits included to the Congressional Camp in Falls Church (part of the NASA in Your Camp Initiative) on June 25 and July 30, the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health on July 28, and the Damascus Children’s Center Summer Day Camp on August 11. Library visits included to the Aspen Hill Library on July 7, two programs at the Damascus Library on August 12, and the Potomac Library on August 23. Altogether approximately 165 kids of varying ages pre-school to high school and 60 adults experienced NASA and GPM content.
