Station #1 CLEAN UP; DUMP AND RINSE THE GLASS Fill the beaker with 150 mL of tap water. Carefully place the egg into the water. Observe what happens. Take the egg out of the beaker. Mass out 25 g of salt. Add the salt to the beaker; stir until it dissolves. Carefully place the egg into the saltwater CLEAN UP; DUMP AND RINSE THE GLASS

Station #2 CLEAN UP; DUMP AND RINSE THE GLASS Fill one cup ¾ full with clear .“Freshwater” Fill the medicine dropper with red . “Saltwater” Place one drop of red water into your cup. Observe what happens. Fill the second cup ¾ full with clear .“Seawater” Fill the second dropper with blue .“Freshwater” Place one drop of blue water into your cup Observe what happens CLEAN UP; DUMP AND RINSE THE GLASS

Station #3 You will be using the hydrometer to measure specific gravity of the water samples. Carefully float the hydrometer in the sample. 2. Read the value where the water line crosses the hydrometer. 3. Record this value in your data chart.

Station #3 The solutions were made by dissolving salt (sodium chloride) in water. If real bay and ocean water had been used, other solids would have been dissolved in the water as well. The graph shows the total percentage of these dissolved solids in seawater.

Rinse and dry the hydrometer HYDROMETER INSTRUCTIONS: Rinse and dry the hydrometer Gently lower the hydrometer into the graduated cylinder. DO NOT DROP IT IN!!!! Wait until it stops bobbing up and down and read the number on the scale at the top. Rinse and dry the hydrometer and carefully set it back in the cushioned dissecting pan.

Station VI Table 1 lists the approximate surface water salinities at various latitudes in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Using the data to construct a salinity curve/graph for each ocean. Remember the independent variable should be placed on the X-axis and the dependent variable should be placed on the Y-axis. Use a different color for each ocean and include a key!

Station VII Before you are 3 types of water, ocean, fresh, and brackish. Add small amounts of each water sample in different orders to the graduated cylinder until you determine which sample is the densest. Record your results in your data chart. Empty the graduated cylinder and clean up the station.
