Presentation transcript:

The Western Democracies Why was democracy able to survive in the United States, France & Britain? Get out your blue WWII government worksheet! Today, you will focus on the post-WWI governments and economies of the U.S., Britain, and France.

WWII Democratic Leaders MAIN CONSIDERATION: Why was democracy able to survive in GB, FR & US? Charles de Gaulle (FR) Winston Churchill (GB) Franklin Roosevelt (US)

The Western Democracies Despite the rise in totalitarianism, some countries chose to maintain democratic governments – U.S., Britain and France. It became even harder to maintain democracy once the economy failed. For today’s activity, you will work in groups of 3. Each person will be responsible for reading about one demoncratic country and completing their portion of the worksheet. After your entire group is done, you will meet and teach the information to your group. These are your notes – keep the info simplified and summarized! No direct copying - I expect explanation! In your groups, number off 1-3. United States: pg. 552-554 Great Britain: pg. 554-555 France: pg. 555-556 I will check these for points tomorrow so make it count!

Inner-War Review: Democratic Countries Describe two ways the U.S. government changed post-WWI. Why was the U.S. economy “booming” in the 1920’s? What would change this? What was the New Deal? Define disarmament. How was Britain’s economy impacted by WWI? What changed about Britain’s dominions post-WWI? Explain France’s economic problems post-WWI. List two ways France tried to protect their security in the inner-war period.
