PACE Program Partnership to Assure College Entry Program Review Presentation April 21, 2010

PACE Program Description In 1989, American River College instituted the PACE Program in collaboration with the high school districts. This partnership was designed to address high school enrollment, retention and transition to college for at-risk and underrepresented youth. Brief Description of your program. Who are you? One Slide, 2 minutes

PACE Is Committed To: Providing students a positive educational experience. Encouraging students in building self-confidence and instilling positive attitudes for success. Providing students with the necessary support to help them achieve their goals. Providing students a head start on college and increase college readiness. Brief Description of your program. Who are you? One Slide, 2 minutes

PACE Programs Summer Institute This program provides high school students an opportunity to experience firsthand what it is like being a college student on a college campus. Over the past 20 years, 2,422 at-risk high school students have been served . Fall & Spring Academy The academy is an extension of the PACE Summer Institute. Providing continued instruction and one-on-one support to those students who wish to continue their learning experience at ARC. Brief Description of your program. Who are you? One Slide, 2 minutes

PACE - Strengths Through a positive hands-on educational experience PACE participants are able to explore college for the first time. Before this experience many of these students had not even considered college as an option and now they do. The strength of the PACE program lies within the dedication of its small staff and faculty in achieving a high level of personal attention and communication with the students.

PACE – Challenges PACE Currently on Hiatus With the current budget cuts administration had no choice but to decide not to offer the PACE Program until further notice. Following the 2009 PACE Summer Institute the program has been put on hiatus until it can be brought back in its full glory. The PACE Program relies solely on available FTE, Matriculation and IR funds, without these funding sources there is no program.

Planning Implications Reinstate the PACE Program Allocate FTE: For PACE Courses and PACE Support Counselors Program Resources: Establish appropriate allocation for staff, space and other resources to support PACE activities and the increasing number of students served. Staffing and Classroom Space
