8th Grade Math- Linear algebra Curriculum Ms. Erlick

Curriculum night Contact information Email: lerlick@kyrene.org Phone: (480) 541-6733 Classes: Linear Algebra, Math Labs 6/7 grade

Standards for mathematical practices Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them Reason abstractly and quantitatively Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others Model with mathematics Use appropriate tools strategically Attend to precision Look for and make use of structure Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

Linear Algebra Unit One: Linear Equations and Linear Functions Reviews how to solve two step equations within real-world scenarios Solving linear equations that have infinitely many solutions, and no solutions Defining and recognizing functions (Using tables/graphs/equations) Unit Two: Slope Unit Rate of Change and Multiple Representations of Linear Functions. Determining the slope from various representations Graphing functions

Linear Algebra Unit Three: The real number system and the Pythagorean Theorem Understanding of properties of irrational and rational numbers Pythagorean Theorem Unit Four: Preservation of Size and Shape, Congruence of Triangles, and Similarities Translations, Rotations, and Reflections of Geometric Figures Similarity Theorems of triangles

Unit Five: Lines and Angle Relationships, Systems of Linear Equations and Functions, and Solving Linear Systems Algebraically The angles formed after parallel lines are cut by a transversal Unit Six: Properties of Exponents and Volumes of 3D figures Solving algebraic equations with exponents Unit Seven: Data in two variables Analyze the information created in a scatter plot

Additional support In addition to the Learning Lab, I am also available after school each day for one on one tutoring. Mathia is also a great way to receive extra practice on a skill we are working on in class.

Grades Students will be assessed through participation, class work, homework, quizzes, and tests. Grades will be determined each quarter and split into the following: Homework/Class work/Participation 20% –This category will be based on student effort and complete work Tests/Quizzes 80% –Tests will be given at the end of a chapter in most cases Homework is given each night, however I do allow a few minutes at the end of class for students to begin their homework.
