Aim #2: How Should We Approach the Study of History? Do Now: Define “history” Do you think that it’s important to study history? Why or why not?

History: A record of significant events that happened in the past and the causes of these events

A history class is also the opportunity to study cultures from all over the world. What is a culture?

Culture: All of the aspects that make up a people’s entire way of life Examples: Religion, language, clothing, food, government, economy, art

Questions about the Nacirema What are your first impressions of the Nacirema? Which of their cultural practices did you find most appealing? Least appealing? Would you consider the Nacirema to be civilized? Why or why not?
