Pests and diseases in allotments This is an allotment, an allotment is a group of owned land used for vegetables, fruit and flowers. The most popular way to get rid of slugs and snails are slug pellets. This is a modern day allotment Aubergine

Could be a threat to pets and young Slug Pellets People use slug pellets all the time to get rid of pests. Pellets are made from cereal and yeast. Here are different kinds of slug pellets: Metaldehyde is a low toxic poison Methiocarb (banned from late 2014) it is ten times more poisonous than Metaldehyde. Ferric Phosphate is a safe alternative to Metaldehyde. Warning! Could be a threat to pets and young children.

Pests Most conditions are ideal homes for slugs . Many birds especially black birds eat slugs and snails . Providing the right habitat for ground beetles will help you kill slugs and snails. Poorly drained areas can be identified as slug breeding sites . Discs keep the birds away. Birds keep the slugs away

Glossary Thank you! Breeding –breeding means making young creatures . Ferric Phosphate – ferric phosphate is a low toxin pellet . Methiocarb – Methiocarb is a high toxin pellet .
