Hertfordshire’s Strategy for School Improvement The Strategy is currently in the process of being evaluated The format of the future plan/strategy post September 2017 is currently being considered. This will align to both the local and national direction of travel and reflect the needs of the Hertfordshire family of schools.
Hertfordshire School Improvement 2017-2020 The four suggested elements of the way forwards. An evaluation of the current 2014-2017 School Improvement Strategy. Educational Psychology Service EP service re-organised from 5 to 4 Area teams Each Area team will be led by an EP Team Manager 1-2 Senior EPs and 6-7 EPs in each team Psychology Assistants/Trainee EPs
Specialist SEND Support Service Each of the 4 ISL Areas will be overseen by an Area Lead Teacher Each ISL Area will have a 0-5 Lead and a 5-25 Lead Protected SEND Specialisms will be championed by Lead Practitioners working across the county (e.g. HI, VI, ) The re-organisation will put more staff directly onto the front line and reduce layers of management and complexity.
SEND Service Head of SEND Service and 2 Area Leads (East and West) 4 Area Teams each with a SEND Manager Each Area Team will include 2 Senior SEND officers, 8/9 SEND Officers and 4/5 casework assistants Also a central SEND team – finance, tribunals and performance
Access and Inclusion 2 Attendance Teams – East and West Each led by an Attendance Manager with 5 Attendance Improvement Officers in each team Central teams covering EHE, CME, Child Employment, Children in Entertainment, Access to Education for Refugees and Travellers Behaviour Strategy and Hertfordshire Steps

Safeguarding in Hertfordshire To date over 490 schools have booked onto the ‘Headteacher Safeguarding Course’. This will now be certificated. The final session is on the afternoon of the 4th of July 2017 The Safeguarding Portal is currently being constructed and should be ready in the next few weeks. DBS ‘risk assessments’ continue to be of variable quality
Safeguarding in Hertfordshire Foci for this term: Revise your risk assessments in school, especially in relation to the site. Fire safety in school, fire drills, extinguisher rates, escape routes clear etc. Asbestos – ensure your register is available and up to date. ‘Control and scope’ are in place. Ensure your emergency systems and ‘lock-down’ processes are clear and well known to staff.
