NSF ACCI Working Group Data & Code Access & Reproducibility “The committee shall recommend a framework for Data Management Plans that is consistent with the NSF Public Access Plan.” Examined all current NSF DMP guidelines Created a template Began to explore implementation routes NSF DMP-Tool (DataOne) IEDA DMP Tool

ACCI Data Collection Template

IEDA DMP Tool Released in Jan 2011 when NSF started to require DMP Developed around the needs of researchers in GEO, but used across many domains Set of web forms that generate structured DMPs organized by research products Suggests repositories based on product/data type Dashboard for researchers to manage their DMPs (e.g. edit for re-use)

IEDA DMP Tool Usage 1,743 DMPs generated

ezDMP: Progress Examined selected data management plans to understand gaps, successes, and patterns of use in IEDA DMP Tool Reviewed the patterns exhibited by DMP creators using the IEDA DMP Tool Compared and contrasted DMPs submitted to the three NSF Directorates GEO (under the lead of K. Lehnert & V. Ferrini) BIO (under the lead of H. Berman) SBE (under the lead of V. Stodden) Implemented into IEDA (“ezDMP”)

ezDMP: Recent Work Redesigned user interface and output reports of prototype for improved usability Expanded support for 100+ existing data repositories, with data available and data retention periods Expanded selections for copyright and copyleft data and software licensing Ability to mention proposed use of shared NSF instrumentation All automatically generated within 2 pages! Prototype will be presented to NSF on November 1,2017

ezDMP: Next Steps “Beta-test” ezDMP after NSF Feedback Aiming for 20 volunteers Columbia, Rutgers, and UIUC Willing GEO, BIO, and SBE-centric volunteers (intern at BIO has been promised) Continue refining based on beta-testing Expand to CISE, EHRS, and MPS directorates Review data, compare, align and convene workshops again Implement changes, test at home sites, etc.
