The Purpose The purpose of our Rube Goldberg style device is to annihilate the group of toy soldiers assembled at its base. This is accomplished with our device through 5 energy change steps which concludes in a barrage of marbles towards the soldiers

The Device

The Device Step one KABOOM! The first step is the release of the first marble down a length of pvc pipe which strikes the paper clip holding the end ball of the Newton's cradle above the assembly

The Device Step two SMACK! The second step is the release of the end ball of the Newton's cradle which strikes the next ball, transferring its momentum along the cradle until the final ball swings upward with momentum of the initial impact

The Device Step three BAM! The third step is the impact of the final ball from the Newton's cradle striking the set of balls sitting atop the first incline nudging them down the slope

The Device Step Four WHACK! The fourth step is the balls from the previous incline fall unto a second incline with a line of many marbles. The impact of the balls on the first marble starts a chain reaction that sends all the marbles off the end of the incline

The Device Step five SLAM! The fifth step is the marbles from the previous incline falling into a funnel connected to a length of pvc pipe. The marbles travel down the pipe and shoot out the end at the group of toy soldiers

Energy Conversions Step one Mgh = ½ MV2 Step two Momentum is conserved through to step three Step three Win +Mgh = ½ MV2 Step four Step five

Conclusions This project showed us how to work together as a team, and divide up responsibilities to achieve a goal. After some failed ideas, we were able to settle on a design that achieved the goal and was something we could build.
