Course Objectives This course aims to provide the students with an opportunity to develop their qualitative analytical skill. It is expected that, students upon completion of this course, will have a sound knowledge on important protocol, and techniques used widely in biochemistry lab, for example: extraction, isolation, purification, thin-layer chromatography, poly acrylamide gel electrophoresis.

Course Objectives Students will get adapted to team work. At the end of this course students will be familiar with “how” to use some apparatus in biochemistry lab, for example: pH-meter, kjeldahl apparatus, spectrophotometer.

Course Topics Lab 1: Active Acidity, pH, and buffer. Carbohydrates Lab 2: Determination of Reducing & Nonreducing Sugars in Honey. Vitamins Lab 3: Determination of Ascorbic Acid Iodometrically

Course Topics Proteins Lab 4: Determination of Nitrogen & Crude Protein. Lab 5: Biuret Method. Lab 6: Enzyme kinetics of Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP). Lipids Lab 7: Separation of blood serum lipids by thin-layer chromatography. Lab 8: Isolation of Cholesterol From Egg Yolk .

Course Topics Lab 9: Analysis of pigments and oxidation processes in photosynthetic organisms. Lab 10: Energy Metabolism. Lab 11,12: SDS-PAGE (Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis).

Textbooks Laboratory manual in biochemistry 2 (Prof. Ahmad Thabet, 2005). Practical Biochemistry 2 (Dr. Tarek M. Zaida,2012). Practical Medical biochemistry (Dr.Tarek M. Zaida,2011). Selected Experiments in biochemistry (Prof. Ahmad Thabet, 2010)

Evaluation There will be different types of evaluation that will include: Participation in the actual lab work, Quizzes,(4). Homeworks. Writing lab reports.
