Year 10 is a key year Science at Varndean is taught as a spiral curriculum Year 10 revisits topics from year 9 and expands upon them Most of the content will be covered by the end of year 10, leaving year 11 for final topics and revision.

Grades in science Double science (unhelpfully called trilogy) is worth two GCSEs. The grades are double grades: 5-5 5-4 4-4 4-3 Triple science are awarded three independent grades (biology, chemistry, physics)

Triple science No decision has been made yet for any student. Last year, in the summer term Year 10s were invited to apply for triple. Two classes of 32 were selected and are currently on course to sit triple exams Performance across the year was taken in to account. Not doing triple science does not close any doors to college courses of future careers, including medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacology etc.

First PPE We intend to give the first Pre-Public Examination (or mock exam) at the end of year 10. The results will be considered along with regular assessments throughout the year when deciding on triple Revision guides are avaible to buy through Wise Pay for £5.50 (rrp £11), and will be delivered to your child in their science lesson.
