TYPE OF THERMAL ENERGY HOT CAN- THE CAN STAY WARM BY USING CONDUCTION. THE THERMAL ENERGY TRANSFER CONDUCTION HAPPENS THROUGH TOUCH. THE PAPER TOWELS AND THE DUCK TAPE PREVENTS THE THERMAL ENERGY FROM LEAVING THE CAN. COLD CAN-THE CAN STAYS COLD BY CONVECTION. CONVECTION IS WERE THE COLD AIR DROPS AND THE HOT AIR RISES . THE THERMAL ENERGY TRANSFERS FROM THE HOT WATER IN THE CAN TO THE COOLER AIR COMING FROM THE WINDOW.

Flow of Thermal Energy (heat) Hot Can Cold Can

Cold Can: The total temperature change between 1 and 10 minutes was a decrease of 3.3 Celsius. The temperature change between 10 and 20 minutes was a decrease of 2.2 Celsius. The temp change between 20 and 30 minutes was a decrease of 2.3 Celsius. The total temperature change was 5degrees Celsius, from 42.6 degrees Celsius to 37.6 degrees Celsius. Hot Can: The total temperature change between 1 and 10 minutes was a decrease of 2.2 degrees Celsius. The temp change between 10 and 20 minutes was a decrease of 1.1 degrees Celsius. The temp change between 20 and 30 minutes was a decrease of 2.3 degrees Celsius. The total temperature change was 6.2 degrees Celsius, from 40 degrees Celsius to 33.8 degrees Celsius.

Hot and Cold Cans Temperature compared to Controlled Can The hot can temperature stayed about the same through the whole 30 minutes. The cold can temperature had a difference of 5 degrees Celsius than the controlled and hot can. This means that the cold can worked and the hot can didn’t.

Real life Examples Hot - Your feeling cold and its winter so you put on a hat or another layer of clothing to keep the heat insulated. Using conduction. Cold -
