Please have a credit card handy, a $63.00 fee is required. Students who have indicated they are interested in the TACHS exam will receive a TACHS Applicant Record as of September 29th. Students with an IEP/504 receiving extra time, must send in an eligibility form to The Archdiocese of New York by October 6, 2017.

Public School Information High School

How the High School Admissions Process Works Every eligible student is assured entrance into one of the New York City public high schools. Students can rank up to 12 schools/programs on their application. If a student wishes to attend his or her zoned high school, he or she must list the zoned program of that high school as one of the choices on his or her application. All students should return their applications by Friday, November 17, 2017 for review. The last day to submit your application is Thursday, December 1st.

IF YOUR CHILD HAS EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES PLEASE PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION TO MS.IBURG

Selection Methods Admission Methods determine the way students are admitted into high school. The selection criteria for each program is listed in the High School Directory.

Educational Option (Ed. Opt.) Educational Option programs are designed to allow students of different achievement levels entrance to a high school/program. Fifty percent (50%) of the students in each category are chosen by the school administration. Fifty percent (50%) are randomly selected from the pool of students who ranked it as a choice. Ed Opt Option : Petrides 16%- High Reading Level Middle 68%- Middle reading level Bottom 16%- Low reading Level

Audition Audition Programs:Laguardia/Wagner Theatre Audition programs require that a student demonstrate proficiency in the specific performing arts/visual arts area for that program. Audition requirements are listed under the program on each school’s directory page. Please refer to Page 3 of your High School Directory for Audition instructions. Late registration for auditions will not be possible. Audition Programs:Laguardia/Wagner Theatre Many audition programs are in other boroughs, please consider travel time when making these selections. We strongly suggest students travel to these schools on a regular business day, like Election Day, to get a feel for the commute.

Screened Screened Programs- Schools rank students using a selection method based on their academic record, standardized test scores and attendance history. Screened Option : Wagner Scholars

Unscreened Unscreened Option: Curtis Visual Arts A computer randomly selects students for acceptance into these programs. Unscreened Option: Curtis Visual Arts

Limited Unscreened Limited Unscreened programs give priority to students who, along with their parents, participate in an orientation session or open house. For example: CSI High School & Gaynor McCown Expeditionary Learning School **Priority is given to students who attend an information session. You must remain for the entire length of the session.**

Zoned Zoned academic comprehensive programs are identified in relation to a specific geographical area. Students living in that area, if they list the zoned program, are guaranteed admission only to the zoned program within that school. A student living outside of that zoned area may still apply to the zoned program of that school, but he/she will not have priority for admission. Students are not guaranteed admission to any program in their zoned school other than the zoned program.

PLEASE LIST 5 OR 6 CHOICES IN ORDER OF PRIORITY PLEASE LIST 5 OR 6 CHOICES IN ORDER OF PRIORITY. DO NOT LIST ANY PROGRAM YOU WOULD NOT BE WILLING TO ACCEPT.

ALL STUDENTS MUST RETURN A COMPLETED PUBLIC SCHOOL APPLICATION

Specialized High School Ticket Please take the time to review your specialized high school ticket. Each student will be required to bubble in their specialized high school choice, in order of preference. Please refer to your Specialized High School Student Handbook. (pages 16-17) Also note, student’s will be required to enter the same information on their SHSAT exam, along with other personal information. Please review with your child the appropriate way to enter this information . Tickets are scheduled to be available October 20, 2017.

Students must be registered by SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOL TEST Saturday, October 21, 2017or Sunday, October 22, 2017 STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, APPROVED 504 ACCOMMODATONS, or ELL STUDENTS WILL TEST Sunday, October 29, 2017 or Saturday, November 4, 2017 Students must be registered by October 16, 2017. NO exceptions will be permitted.

High School Admissions for Students With an I.E.P. Most students with an I.E.P. participate in the same enrollment process with some additional considerations. Students should attend the open house event for all schools they are considering. Our Zoned High Schools are able to accommodate most IEP’S. Students in a Specific IEP driven program should confirm that this program is offered at their school of choice. Resources related to High School Admissions may be found at: www.nyc.gov/schools/ChoicesEnrollment/High Special education programs and services may be found at: www.nyc.gov/schools/Academics/SpecialEducatio n/programs

Special Education Services and Supports in High School Students with disabilities may apply to any high school program All schools are expected to deliver special education supports and services to meet students needs Families are encouraged to think about post – secondary goals and engage with support staff at school to plan for life after high school.

PLEASE CONSIDER TRAVEL TIME AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS PRIOR TO APPLYING TO ANY SCHOOL OR PROGRAM

Results The Results Are In!

ROUND 1 All students will receive their results from Round 1. These results are expected in early March. Students who do not receive a match to one of the choices on their application will have the chance to reapply to programs that still have openings. They will then be entered into Round 2.

Round 2 A Student not receiving a match in Round 1 can reapply to any program with open seats. Student’s who received a match in Round 1 can re-submit an application to a program with open seats, however if matched, then the Round 1 match is forfeited. Results to Round 2 are expected in early May.

ALL STUDENTS MUST RETURN THEIR PUBLIC SCHOOL RESPONSE LETTERS Students attending Catholic Schools or out of state schools should indicate the school name on the response form.
