Before we start Go to the AVID 7 Course Handouts webpage and get a blank piece of Cornell Notes paper from the front of the room Complete the top section with: Topic/Objective => The Cornell Way Name => Your Name Class/Period => AVID 7 Period 9 Date => Today’s Date Essential Question => What is the Cornell Way?
Four Parts of The Cornell Way Note Taking – Taking notes in class Note Making – Making my notes usable Note Interacting – Studying with my notes Note Reflecting – How could my notes be better?
Part 1 - Note Taking Create your Cornell note paper Write in the Essential Question (usually provided by teacher) Use your preferred style and organization
Part 2 - Note Making Underline or highlight key information in the notes Fill in gaps with a partner or study buddy Look for “chunks” or groups of notes Write corresponding questions for them
Part 3 - Note Interacting Answer each question you’ve written to compose a summary Remember the AVID “10-24-7” Repetitions Use your completed notes as a study guide (for example; the fold-over method)
