Mrs. Alwardt 8th Grade U.S. History Team Oregon Back to School Night 2017 Mrs. Alwardt 8th Grade U.S. History Team Oregon
Hi! My name is Heather. I’ve been teaching for 14 years – 13 years at ECMS I have a FABULOUS family! When not teaching or chasing my girls around I run races in my spare time. I really LOVE my job!
What will we learn this year? History of the United States from the colonies through Reconstruction
Academic Expectations All students are expected to demonstrate effort. Each student is different, therefore effort looks different for each student. All students will be challenged throughout the year Primary sources Cornell notes Various activities and assignments Essays History Day Tests and quizzes
Recommended supplies: Spiral notebook (for History only) Pens/pencils – Always have an extra Highlighter Glue stick Scissors Colored pencils Pencil sharpener Recommended supplies:
How can I help my child be successful this year? Organization is KEY!!! Most students struggle with organization on some level. Check the planner DAILY. Check the Q Parent Connect. Sign up for Remind
What if my student was or will be absent? Students must make up absent work ASAP to not fall behind. 01 Students should use Period 5 to “check in” and see what was missed 02 All absent or missing work should be made up AFTER completing all current work, unless otherwise specified. 03
Grade Breakdown 60% 40% Notes & Assignments Tests/Quizzes I don’t assign a lot of HW. If your student comes home with a lot of it, then time was most likely misused in class.
Team Oregon Behavior Expectations The classroom should be a safe learning environment for all students. All students are encouraged to participate in activities and lessons.
