What Do You Know About His Family? Jesus and Family What Do You Know About His Family?

Did Mary Remain a Virgin? No Matt 1:24-25 “And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took her as his wife, and kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.”

How Big Was Jesus’ Family? His Family Was At Least 9 Family Members. Matt. 13:55-56 Joseph & Mary Jesus James Joses Judas (Jude) Simon At Least 2 Sisters

How Do Catholics Interpret This Passage? Initial Question: I had a protestant brother tell me that this verse shows that Jesus had brothers and sisters. I didn't know how to respond. I need help with this one. I looked it up in the Greek, and I'm more confused than ever.

How Do Catholics Interpret This Passage? “These were ‘brethren’ not brothers. Jesus would hardly have left His Mother to His apostle John, if the above four were also her sons.” “Mary is only referred to as the "Mother of Jesus.” “Fact - The number of ‘brothers and sisters’ named or mentioned in the Gospels would have been difficult if not impossible for Mary to have borne - and probably would have been mentioned in the story of the Finding in the Temple.”

Other Problems With Mary The Belief in Original Sin. What About Mary? The Doctrine of the Immaculate Conception -Mary was conceived by normal biological means in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne, but God acted upon her soul, keeping it ‘immaculate’. Thus, Mary Was Kept From the Stain of Original Sin. They Also Believe She Was Free of Personal Sin.

Did Jesus Spend His Entire Childhood in Nazareth? Possibly 2-3 Years No, But Most of It. Matt 2:13-15 “Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, ‘Arise and take the Child and His mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him. And he arose and took the Child and His mother by night, and departed for Egypt; and was there until the death of Herod.’”

How Did Jesus’ Family View Him? All Biblical Evidence Shows They Did Not Believe In Him or Understand His Ministry.

Jesus’ Fleshly Family Luke 2:34-35 – At The Temple “Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, ‘Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed and a sword will pierce even your own soul.’”

Jesus’ Fleshly Family Luke 2:33 “His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him.”

Jesus’ Fleshly Family Luke 2:49-50 – Jesus Was Lost “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father's house? And they did not understand the statement which He had made to them.”

Jesus’ Fleshly Family John 2:3-4 – The Wedding In Cana “When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what do I have to do with you? My hour has not yet come.’”

Jesus’ Fleshly Family John 7:3-5 – Mocking Brothers “His brothers therefore said to Him, ‘Depart from here, and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may behold Your works which You are doing… If You do these things, show Yourself to the world. For not even His brothers were believing in Him.”

Mark 3:20-21; 31-35 3:20 – Jesus Was In A House, But He Was Not Alone. 3:31 – His Mother and His Brothers Arrive To Call For Him. 3:21 – Might Indicate Why.

Why Did Jesus Say This? Was This An Indication That His Family Was Not Believing In Him? Was Jesus Simply Showing The Closeness Of Those Who Believed and Obeyed? Was Jesus Introducing Them To A New Family?

Believers Are Part of a Spiritual Family We Must Make The Church A Family A Family Shares “… all those who had believed… had all things in common” (Acts 2:44). A Family Loves “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love” (Rom 12:10). A Family Admonishes Each Other “Admonish him as a brother” (2 Thess 3:15).

What About Our Fleshly Families? If You Are Part of A Christian Family Then… Great!!! Be Careful Not To Rely On Their Faith To Be Your Faith. Understand Your Family Is Part of a Bigger Family.

What About Our Fleshly Families? If You Are Not, Then… You Will Have To Learn To Prioritize and Might Have To Make Some Difficult Decisions. Matt. 10:34-37 Matt. 19:29

After Jesus’ Death Acts 1:14 “These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.”

After Jesus’ Death Rom 14:16 “Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil.”
