Space Management and Logistics during LS2 J.M. Jimenez Maintenance & Consolidations LHC Injectors’ Upgrade High Luminosity LHC LHC Detectors’ Upgrade

Space Management Logistics Main topics J.M. Jimenez LS2 Project (introduced to CERN Tripartite – May’17)

Collecting the needs Injectors & LIU Project LIU activities will need space: Before the LS2 to: Assemble components and systems; Proceed to acceptance tests; Store components prior to installation. During the LS2 to: Store temporarily equipment from the accelerators and surface infrastructures to ease/allow the activities to proceed; Store components/assemblies till reaching the installation window. Store the wastes (radioactive/non-radioactive) till recycling them. LS2 will help as well to sort out: Maintenance and Consolidation (not linked to LIU) issues (equivalent to those during LS1). Temporary storage of operational spare components removed from the accelerators and related infrastructures. J.M. Jimenez LS2 Project (introduced to CERN Tripartite – May’17)

Collecting the needs LHC & HL-LHC HL-LHC activities will need space before and during the LS2 to: Store components for the manufacturing processes. Store components prior to installation or delivery to Industry. Assemble components and systems; Proceed to acceptance tests; And also: Store temporarily equipment from the accelerators and surface infrastructures to ease/allow the activities to proceed; Store components/assemblies till reaching the installation window. Store the wastes (radioactive/non-radioactive) till recycling them. LS2 will help as well to sort out: Maintenance and Consolidation (not linked to HL-LHC) issues (equivalent to those during LS1). Temporary storage of operational spare components removed from the accelerators and related infrastructures. J.M. Jimenez LS2 Project (introduced to CERN Tripartite – May’17)

Dealing with the needs of the LS2 activities only… Space management Dealing with the needs of the LS2 activities only… Will certainly help for others (synergies) but will not be considered as priorities… Encourage Groups/Departments to make free existing storage by optimization or disposal of unnecessary components. Are working on temporary solution while targetted buildings are made available. J.M. Jimenez LS2 Project (introduced to CERN Tripartite – May’17)

LS2 Team will be focusing on: Needs of “Bases de Vie” / Sanitary; Logistics management Handling and transport needs must go through PLAN tool, bundled by items/areas to limit the number of entries. LS2 Team will be focusing on: Needs of “Bases de Vie” / Sanitary; Transports of personnel; Optimisation of access time to premises; Transport/temporary storage of dangerous material (radioactive/asbestos/heavy loads…) J.M. Jimenez LS2 Project (introduced to CERN Tripartite – May’17)

Launch before end of May a Survey on needs for Storage: Next steps Working together with HSE-RP to combine the efforts (radioactive/non-radioactive) and have the global picture. Launch before end of May a Survey on needs for Storage: Radioactive/non-radioactive; Workshops (radioactive/non-radioactive) Logistics needs. Group Leaders / PLAN Managers will receive an email with the relevant templates to be fill for a later one-to-one discussion (QA). J.M. Jimenez LS2 Project (introduced to CERN Tripartite – May’17)
