Abstracts Received: 76 Abstracts Accepted: 60 Withdrawals/No-Shows 16 No. of Sessions: 13 Abstracts Accepted: 108 Sessions: 18 + award lecture Withdrawals/No-Shows 25 Presented: 83 Issues / Help Needed 2017 MAO at Aviation is in the same week as ISSMO World congress, this will ne damaging for both events. Better coordination is needed for the future. Conference rooms too small, many attendees standing Initiatives & Plans Applications subcommittee’s current main project: Create test suite for MDO. Education subcommittee: 1.plans on student paper competition: (i) advertise widely, (ii) have a special session, (iii) have presentation rather than poster. 2. To build a shared education resource to provide MDO experts with specialized current topics not easily available. Financial Status and Other Activities Boeing/Lockheed/NASA provided sponsorship for the student paper competiution: $2000 first prize, $1000 second prize, $200 for judges meal, $2100 for next year's competition
“TC/PC Name” Committee Forum Participation MDO TC organized MDO sessions at SciTech and MAO conferences at Aviation. Successes: The numbers of submitted papers grew for MAO at Aviation: 150 (2017), 108 (2016), 79 (2015) and MDO sessions at SciTech: 76 (2017), 48 (2016), 43 (2015). Disappointments: Only 7 abstracts submitted on the shape and topology optimization for MAO at Aviation 2017. This is likely to be due to a clash with ISSMO world congress 2017 in Braunschweig (Germany) to be held in the same week. Conference rooms still too small for a significant number of sessions. The shift of SciTech by a week caused serious attendance problems for overseas academics. How can we improved the Forums? Avoid a clash with ISSMO world congresses in 2019, 2021, etc. MDO TC members have been identified for running the future forums at SciTech and Aviation
