Presentation transcript:

INFLAMMATION What is inflammation? it’s a body response against ( MILD or MODERATE) injury , it’s a first line of defense. Not severe enough to cause cell death (necrosis).

Inflammation is of two types: 1- acute : sudden onset 2- chronic : gradually 3-sub-acute: something between the acute and chronic.

Aim of inflammation: 1- remove and destroy the irritant. 2- prevent further spreading of the irritant. This irritant may be: 1- living : bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi. 2- non-living: mechanical: shock, accident Chemical, immunological.

1- chronic inflammatory cells

2- chronic inflammatory cells

3- chronic inflammatory cells:

4- Giant cell ( langerhan’s) specific :

5- Giant cell (foreign body) non-specific:

6- foreign body:

7- Acute inflammatory cells:

Mechanism of inflammation: 1- Vascular changes 2- Leukocytes “cellular” events 3- Chemical mediators of inflammation

8- Margination of WBC’s:

9- Immigration of WBC’s

10- inflammatory reaction “dilated blood vessels”
