DAVID’S DECEPTION AND REJECTION MEMORY VERSE: “Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the Lord liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil Turn away from lying and all sins so that you won’t be rejected by God on the last day. 31 in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not” (1 Samuel 29:6) Text: 1 Samuel 27:1-12; 29:1-11

Introduction David was a man after God’s own heart. He faced a lot of problems at the hands of Saul because Saul was jealous of him. David killed a lion, bear and Goliath the Philistine’s champion.

Introduction

Introduction

Introduction People appreciated David better than Saul. Saul tried to kill David several times, but God delivered David. God will deliver you out of the hands of those who are after your life in Jesus name.

David in Exile David was scared of being killed by Saul, so he had to leave the land of Israel to live in the country of the Philistines. David took his family members, army and belongings along with him as it is a known fact that Saul wanted to kill him. David stayed in the land of the Philistines for a period of one full year and four months.

David in Exile David was received and favoured by the Philistines He was given a whole city to dwell in by Achish, the son of the king of Gath. They did not remember David killed Goliath, their champion. If you live in obedience to the word of God, He will defend, protect and honour you with long life

David`s Deception David fled from Israel in order to save his life. He was so disturbed that he forgot all that the Lord had done for him. He resorted to self-help by deceiving prince Achish who helped him and gave him a city to dwell. David engaged in cover-up and deception- these are different forms of lying.

David`s Deception He did these because he wanted to continue in enjoy the favour of the Philistines by staying in their land. Some children cover-up and deceive their parents, friends, teachers and younger ones. They cheat in the examination or copy other children’s assignment. These are wrong method to obtain favour.

David`s Deception Do not seek to get favor or succeed in life by deceiving, lying or cheating. Trust in the Lord, remember His past faithfulness and believe His word. His promises are yea and amen- He will surely help you in the time of trouble.

David`s rejection There was war again between Israel and the Philistines. Philistines gathered and David and his six hundred men gathered together with them. Achish did not see anything wrong in David going to battle with them, because he loved David. Nevertheless, the princes of the Philistines rejected the idea of David going to battle with them.

David`s rejection Sinners and backsliders that fail to repent will be rejected by God on the last day. David was rejected by the Philistines, but later found favour with God. He repented of his backsliding and humbled himself before God. He was accepted by God and became a man after God’s own heart.

David`s rejection If you are a sinner or backslider, repent and believe the gospel. Ask for forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of Jesus. Ask Jesus to set you free from sin and be your Saviour and Friend. Taking this step will bring God’s favour upon you and you will be accepted and not rejected.
