Perhaps the world ends here By Joy Harjo owen and Adam Perhaps the world ends here By Joy Harjo

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here The world begins at a kitchen table. No matter what, we must eat to live.

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here The gifts of earth are brought and prepared, set on the table. So it has been since creation, and it will go on

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here We chase chickens or dogs away from it. Babies teethe at the corners. They scrape their knees under it

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here It is here that children are given instructions on what it means to be human. We make men at it, we make women

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here At this table we gossip, recall enemies and the ghosts of lovers

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here Our dreams drink coffee with us as they put their arms around our children. They laugh with us at our poor falling-down selves and as we put ourselves back together once again at the kitchen table.

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here This table has been a house in the rain, an umbrella in the sun.

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here Wars have begun and ended at this table. It is a place to hide in the shadow of terror. A place to celebrate the terrible victory

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here We have given birth on this table, and have prepared our parents for burial here

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here At this table we sing with joy, with sorrow. We pray of suffering and remorse. We give thanks

Perhaps the world ends here Joy Harjo Perhaps the world ends here Perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table, while we are laughing and crying, eating of the last sweet bite

Interpretation Perhaps the world ends here The poets message in this poem is that in all your life you always will gather back to the dinner table because you have to eat to live, and that the meaning of life is to share stories with your loved ones until your final breathe. The title of the poem is about a physiological event like the world ending but when you read it, it has a different kind of meaning. The poem is written about how important spending time with your family is. The narrator or the poem is the poet because its his thoughts. This poem to us just means about how spend time with your family before you die and that no matter what the circumstances are food always brings people together

Style Perhaps the world ends here This poem is a free verse poem because there is no rhyme scheme or any particular type of structure. There is punctuation in this poem allowing you to pause before reading the next line and also making the reader read the poem slower.

Perhaps the world ends here Tone and voice Peaceful Calm Exaggerated
