Class of 2014 graduation rates by race/ethnicity Read as: “10.7% of all Black students across California have been suspended one or more times.” California Department of Education, 2016.

Six-year completion rates at UC and CSU systems by race/ethnicity (2013/2014*) Why old data?  2008 and 2007 were the latest years that data was available for CSU and UC. Why six years?  CSU students often complete their degree in 5 to 6 years. *Based on UC students entering in 2007 and CSU students entering in 2008. CSU Division of Analytic Studies, 2015; UC Office of the President, 2015.

Class of 2014 graduates by race/ethnicity “Graduation” refers to the percentage of students in each ethnic group who graduated within the expected 4-year timeframe (started 9th grade in 2010-11 and finished 4 years later) – also known as the cohort graduation rate. See p. 15-16 in BMM. “Other” includes students who are still enrolled and those who have completed high school without a diploma. California Department of Education, 2015.

Percentage of 12th grade graduates who completed the A-G course sequence by race/ethnicity The A-G course sequence is the set of 15 courses students must complete, and pass with a “C” or better, to be eligible for admission at a UC or CSU. Requirements: -2 history/social science courses -four English courses -3 math -2 lab science -2 foreign language -1 visual/performing arts -1 additional college-prep elective See p. 14-15 in BMM. Percent of California students suspended at least once in 2013-14 Definition of “suspension”: the percentage of students from each ethnic group that were suspended one or more times in 2013-14. Although a student may have committed multiple “offenses” as part of a single incident, each student is only counted once per incident for which they were suspended. Reasons for suspension include anything from violence to drug use to willful defiance. See p. 13 in BMM. California Department of Education, 2015.
