NA62 LAV Anti1 REMOVAL & TESTS From 24 to 27 November 2009 @ Cern During the Lav Module zero removal we made some test to verify procedure, tools, and make experiences with Lav detector. HELIUM LEAK TEST - SETUP VACUUM GAUGES VACUUM GAUGE The Anti-1 is now on the side of blue tube line, closed with endcups and equipped with pumps, valves and gauge to make and measure vacuum. There’s also a helium detector and helium bottle to perform the leak test. Note: After 12 hours of turbomolecular pumping the vacuum was 6.4x10-3 HELIUM BOTTLE HELIUM DETECTOR TURBOMOLECULAR PUMP PRELIMINARY PUMP C.Capoccia 04.12.2009

ANTI-1 Handling by crane with winches 40 mm From Sliding Connection we get around 40 mm of free space to pull out the Anti-1 from Blu tubes. It means that we need to level the Anti-1 very fine when we lift it. After, to simulate the installation, we will need to level and also to clock it to get a fine alignment between flange-holes to put in place few screws to simulate the connections... VETO ANTI-1 HANDLING BY CRANE WITH WINCHES Winch to level Anti-1 Winch to Clock Anti-1 C.Capoccia 04.12.2009

PROTECTION TO AVOID CRASH BETWEEN LAV & BLUE TUBE FLANGES Aluminium plate fixed on the support on both sides to guide and protect steel flanges’ surface We used a flat aluminium profile 100x6 mm Small thikness to save space Soft material to avoid damages on steel flanges C.Capoccia 04.12.2009

O-Ring and its Groove O-Ring groove (on the LAV flange) O-Ring packed between flanges (Blue tube and LAV flange) Grease The groove has a conical shape and hold the O-Ring like a hook On the Sliding connection we moved the sliding ring first vertical by crane and than horizzontally. The O-Ring stay in its groove. O-Ring groove (on the LAV flange) On the Fixed connection when we lifted up by crane the Lav it moved also a little horizzontally. The O-Ring came out. O-Ring pulled out during horizzontal movement (grease effect) To avoid grease effect first move the flange in vertical direction to detach it, than horizzontally. Grease (Like light glue) C.Capoccia 04.12.2009

SUPPORT REVIEW Support with foot Support with slide Support alone... Side View During the Lav removal or installation with blue tubes in place is necessary to remove the screws in front of supports. This because the heads of this screws are outside of Lav body envelope and the space available from sliding connection is precious! Support with foot Support with slide Support alone... C.Capoccia 04.12.2009

CONCLUSIONS Removal & Installation with blue tube in place The free space available from sliding connection is enough to remove & to re-install the Lav. The Crane’s speeds are excellent: slow and smooth in all directions. It’s possible to re-install the Lav with blue tube in place directly with feet on the support (no slides needed). In conclusion we don’t need to build more slides, a set of slides we have can be used (when necessary) and than replaced with feet. Handling by Crane with Winches: The two winches provided by crane people worked very fine, we were able to level and clock the Lav at level of millimeters. The installation of winches on Lav seems easy Flanges protection The two aluminium plate fixed on supports to avoid crashes between steel flanges work fine, in reality we can consider them as an over protection, in the sense that the crane is moving so slowly that they seem not necessary. O-Ring (how keep it in its groove) The O-Ring normally stay in its groove, also because the groove has a conical shape (in the right direction) that keep it in place. The only critical operation is the flanges detachment, during this operation we can have a ‘grease effect’ (grease is like a light glue) that pull out the O-ring from its groove. We have to take care about this step. Support Review The support with parts fixed together by screws are very flexible. It’s possible (if necessary) to dismount them directly by hand (the weight of each part is less than 15Kg), but we have to remove screws during dis-installation. We are considering to fix parts together by welding, with this solution we don’t have screws to remove during installation but (if necessary) we will need a crane to remove support...
