DISUNITY/ DIVISIONS Is Christ divided? The Cross foolishness to Greek stumbling block to the Jews Spirit of God for All Constant reference to “brothers..” Think as God not as man All Apostles working to the same end God is supreme, He will judge (4:1-4) N. Hammersley

SEXUAL IMMORALITY STOP! Misuse of freedom Don’t associate with immoral people LAST RESORT- expel the immoral brother Act of sex – 2 become 1 flesh = the body of Christ You are not your own! 6:19-20 Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit Marriage is good…but the end is near, so be careful.! N. Hammersley

LAWSUITS Settle disputes in a Christian way (6:1-11) Don’t give outsiders the wrong impression of Christianity N. Hammersley

FOOD AND IDOLS Doesn’t matter as gods don’t exist BUT responsible to the weaker in faith Ch 8 Statement – have rights , but RESPONSIBILITY Ch 9 Illustration – Paul gave up his rights to preach (his responsibility) Ch10 Enforcement – O.T. examples N. Hammersley

SOCIAL STATUS Worship properly – do not discriminate Correct way to celebrate Eucharist (“one body”)10:14 11:23 description of the last supper N. Hammersley

SPIRITUAL GIFTS 12-14 Different gifts but the same spirit 12:7…ie. They have the same origin, God! Unity of the Body of Christ 12:12-31 Prophecy and Tongues 13:1-14:25…tongues only useful if they can be translated. Only useful if build up the church 14;26 ORDERLY WORSHIP…Behave! N. Hammersley

RESURRECTION 15 They misunderstand the teaching of the resurrection Greeks thought that Body and Soul were separate…only the Soul was immortal Jews thought that Body/Soul is a single entity Paul seems to promote the latter…the whole person is resurrected/ transformed in to something utterly different and made perfect N. Hammersley
