Tyrone Hood

Hood, 51, was convicted of the shooting death of Marshall Morgan Jr Hood, 51, was convicted of the shooting death of Marshall Morgan Jr., an Illinois Institute of Technology basketball standout, and had been serving a 50-year prison sentence. He has long maintained his innocence and said Chicago police should have investigated Morgan's father in the killing.

Hood's case was one of the first re-examined by the Conviction Integrity Unit after the Tribune investigated the evidence and made inquiries with prosecutors in 2012. After an initial review, prosecutors decided in summer 2013 that the convictions of Hood and Washington for killing Morgan were solid, but their lawyers kept pressing authorities.

Morgan's father, Marshall Sr Morgan's father, Marshall Sr., was convicted of manslaughter in the 1977 shooting death of a friend who owed him money. He was questioned in the slaying of his son in large part because he was struggling financially in the months before his son was killed and took out a life insurance policy on his son. He also became a suspect two years later in the killing of his fiancée, whose life he also insured.

No new charges in the Morgan case are imminent, but the investigation will continue, the state's attorney's office said.

Advice for people of color who are growing up in America and the challenges they may face in our society. What advice do you have for young people of color who are growing up in America and the challenges they may face in our society? Education is very important. That is something no one can take away and we have to remember to give back when we make it. We don’t do that. Racism is still a major factor, In the younger generation it is not as bad, Millennials are more accepting of race and color. Racism is a learned behavior. You teach people how to treat you.
