The Marvelettes * Motown’s first successful girl group * 29 R&B/Pop hits, 3 top ten hits and one #1 hit * Had Motown’s first #1 hit * 1961 Please, Mr. Postman * Original name of group was The Marvels, changed to The Marvelettes before the release of Please, Mr. Postman

* Disbanded in 1970 when Motown moved to L.A. * 1962 Beachwood 4-5789 * A few member changes, some girls got married and some were not allowed to perform in night clubs by parents * 1966 Don’t Mess With Bill * The Marvelettes felt they played a secondary role to Motown’s superstar girl group The Supremes * Disbanded in 1970 when Motown moved to L.A.
