Learning Objective: To understand compass directions Topic Week 4 Term 2 Learning Objective: To understand compass directions

Learning Objective: To understand compass directions Have if you seen one of these before? Do you recognize it? Have they used one before? What are compasses?

Learning Objective: To understand compass directions People have been navigating with magnetic compasses for the best part of 900 years and we still use them today to help us to read different types of maps. To follow directions on a map we need to know where North, South, East, West are. On most maps North points towards the top of the map.

Learning Objective: To recognise continents and oceans. Earth is made up of land and oceans/seas. Who can come up to the globe and show where there is water and where there is land?

Learning Objective: To recognise continents and oceans. Earth’s surface (crust) is like a jigsaw and it slides around on an extremely hot liquid called magma (what comes out of volcanos).

Learning Objective: To recognise continents and oceans. The largest plates help us to divide the Earth into continents. We also split the water around the continents into oceans. There are seven continents and five oceans.

Learning Objective: To recognise continents and oceans. Earth is a sphere but we use a 2D map to help us see the whole world at the same time.
