Eureka Math/Engage NY “Eureka was built around the core principle that students need to know more than just what works when solving a problem—they need to understand why it works. The curriculum goes beyond facts and formulas, teaching students to think about math conceptually. This helps students become not merely literate, but fluent in mathematics.” -Greatminds.org Parent Night 9/29 @ 6:30

Standards Based Report Cards What are they? Research based Provides specific feedback to students, parents, and teacher about student progress Disentangles learning behaviors and effort from progress toward academic goals Promotes consistency in grading within a grade level and between grade levels Helps focus instruction and assessment Parent Night – October 20th How will they be different? We will have four marking periods with mid-marking period reports being only issued to students whose progress is of concern No overall subject grades Grade is not an average of performance Proficiency on specific objectives will be identified Effort and behavior will be assessed separately Teachers will use rubrics to identify levels of proficiency for each standard
Partners in Learning How to reinforce skills at home: Read to and with your child – this is one of the best things you can do to help your child become the strongest reader they can be! Talk to your child about their daily events, special things that have happened and other topics of interest. This helps to prepare your child for telling and writing stories about their lives. Additional activities for math, reading and sight word practice are located on my website Front Row Zearn
