1937: student of Law in University of Athens 1939: imprisoned for action against the dictatorship of Metaxas. 1940 – 1960: Studies in U.S.A. Serves as a volunteer in the American Marine Force during WWII. 1943: Phd on Economics and Philosophy from Harvard University. Associate Professor there. 1947 – 1959: Professor in Minessota and Berkeley University, California. 1961: Returns in Greece, 1964: elected member of the Parliament.
1967: imprisoned by the dictatorship of Papadopoulos, free after the intervention of John Galbraith and the American Government. 1969 – 1974: Professor of Economics at Stokholm/ Sweden and York. Creates the PAK to resist against the dictatorship and in 1974 the party PASOK, with which gets elected Prime Minister in 1981. He obtains four children and gets married three times.

The events 1961 - 1967 1961: the formation of a political party, the Center Union (EK), as an alternative to the National Radical Union (ERE) of Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis. Elections of 1961: ERE wins. Papandreou starts a ‘’relentless struggle’’ doubting the result. 1963: Karamanlis resigns. Elections: First in votes the EK. Papandreou becomes Prime Minister with the votes of the left party EDA. He resigns. 1964: New elections. Papandreou’s EK wins 53,7% of votes. Some months later King Paul dies.
1965: The new King Constantinos II, 24 years old makes Papandreou to submit his resignation. Seventy days (July – September 1965) people protest and fight with the police at the streets of Athens. The political instability leads to the dictatorship in April 21st 1967. the elections were scheduled for May 1967. It is known as the ‘’Regime of the Colonels’’. Democracy is coming back in 1974 after Turkey invaded Cyprus.
