Reflections: Task 1.2 D1.2 Vision Report Changes from v1 April 2010 Available at www.zerowin.eu Changes from v1 Further comments?

Internet Forum Set up by Reinhard Wilfinger and Ana Popovic (many thanks!) Little used Views but no posts Nothing meaningful to add to discussion Needed a longer time period, more publicity and a “rehearsed debate”? Wrong language for business and industry? Comments?

General Discussion Over to you……

Conference Questions Is zero waste theoretically possible? No; concept to drive us from linear to circular resource flow model Questions: Scope and boundaries correct? Are the identified concepts correct? Are we using the right language for business and industry? Will it work in your sector? Over to you……

ZeroWIN Scope and Boundary DESIGN EXTRACTION OF RAW MATERIALS MATERIAL SUPPLIERS MANUFACTURERS RETAILERS CONSUMERS MANUFACTURERS COMPONENT SUPPLIERS DISMANTLERS RAW MATERIALS REFURBISHERS RECYCLERS Industrial Network boundary for ZeroWIN purposes This is the latest version – newest addition was 2-way arrow between ‘Manufacturers’ actors. DISPOSAL (???) Zero Waste – No disposal! NOTES: The diagram represents a network of potentially diverse industries working together in symbiosis. The transport associated with material, product and waste flows are implied within the arrows. ‘Manufacturers’ is taken to include construction activities (something is produced). ‘Dismantlers’ is taken to include Materials Recycling Facilities, demolition activities and automotive dismantling activities. ‘Refurbishers’ is taken to include remanufacture, re-use and repair activities. ‘Manufacturers’ appears twice, to represent those that make individual/basic products and those that integrate materials, components and other products to create more complex products or services, for example construction sites and the automotive industry. Manufacturers produce final products but they also create waste materials/sub-products that shall be considered (blue dotted arrows). IPR/take-back scheme flows are not indicated to avoid confusion, but they are expected. Red arrows indicate downstream, post-consumer flows.
