Presentation transcript:

Art Elements The “tools” that an artist uses. The sensory elements that are used to create artwork; they include: line, shape, form, color, value, Space texture

Line Art element that is used to define space, contours, and outlines. The path created by a moving point, mark, or object. Line can be straight, swirly, jagged, dotted, dashed, broken, thick, thin, zig-zag, diagonal, vertical, horizontal, curved, bold, parallel, or perpendicular.

SHAPE An enclosed space defined by other art elements such as line, color, and texture. Classified as geometric shapes and organic shapes (found in nature), such as leaves, stones or clouds.

FORM Element of art that appears three-dimensional and encloses volume such as cube, sphere, pyramid, or cylinder. Sculptures are 3-D forms.

TEXTURE The surface quality of an artwork usually perceived through the sense of touch. It can also be implied, perceived visually though not felt through touch.

VALUE Element of art concerned with the degree of lightness or darkness of colors or objects. Darker colors are lower in value; light colors are higher in value.

SPACE Element of art that indicates areas between, around, above, below, or within something. Positive Space are the enclosed areas or objects in an artwork. Negative space is space not occupied by an object or figure but circulating in and around it, contributing to the composition.

Element of art that is derived from reflected light Element of art that is derived from reflected light. The sensation of color is aroused in the brain by response of the eyes to different wavelengths of light. Color has three properties: (1) hue, (2) value, and (3) intensity.
