What is a rainforest? The rainforest is a place where it rains everyday. Plants and animals live in the rainforest. It is very hot and humid. South America has the world’s largest area of rainforest. All the pieces of rainforest surrounds the equator. The Amazon rainforest surrounds the Amazon River.

Location of Rain Forests The places that have rainforests are Central America, Hawaii, Africa, Asia, South America, and Australia. They are all located around the equator.

Emergent Layer The Emergent Layer has many animals.It peeks out from the canopy.The animals are harpy eagle, butterflies, parrots, and pygmy gliders.

Birds

Canopy Layer The Canopy Layer has a lot of plants and animals. The animals there are butterflies, parrots, birds, monkeys, insects, three toe sloths, iguanas, boa constrictors, jaguars, ocelots, tree porcupines, and bees. There are plants like fruits, seeds, leaves, trees, vines, orchids, ferns, and algae.

Understory Layer The Understory Layer has a lot of plants and animals. The Understory is also the third highest layer.It has animals like monkeys, butterflies, parrots, jaguars, macaws, tree porcupines, geckos and insects. The plants there are lianas.

Forest Floor The Forest Floor is full of pretty animals and plants. The Forest floor has animals like Anacondas, butterflies, and .dragonflies

People of the Rain Forest The people of the rainforest are very poor. In very poor places.So when they cut down the rainforest not only the animals lose a home but the people do too.

Deforestation The rainforest is being destroyed by people because they want gold and silver. They also want more room for cities and towns. Some wood for houses and paper.
