My background I grew up in Queens, New York. I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master in Early Childhood Education from St. John’s University, New York. My experience -I’ve been teaching for 18 years. -This is my thirteen year at Lost Lake.

I remembered to listen and follow directions.   2 I had a good day, but I needed a little help to remember to listen, follow directions or stay on task.   1 I had difficulty following directions and I had to be reminded many times about off-task behavior.

Lunch with a Student SOP 1. Sign in as a visitor 2. Display your visitor sticker on either shoulder 3. Wait for your student at the picnic tables 4. Only your child may join you for lunch 5. Students and siblings must stay seated 6. Clean up when finished 7. Lunch seating is available only outside 8. Please make sure to send the student into the cafeteria or hand the student off to the teacher when finished 9. Immediately return to the office and sign out

Time: All 9 weeks Comprehension Test 60% Fluency Test 20% The ELA curriculum for First Grade contains 8 units of study in which standards are clustered and students are engaged through reading, speaking and listening, language and writing standards. As students engage in the units of study they will: Read and comprehend literature and informational text building in complexity. (R.10) Write daily across subject areas and for multiple purposes. (W.1, W.2, W.3) Participate in collaborative conversations on First Grade topics. (SL.1) Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English including grammar, usage, and mechanics when writing. (L.1-L.3) Determine/clarify meaning of grade-appropriate words encountered through listening, reading, and use. (L.4-L.6) Time: All 9 weeks Comprehension Test 60% Fluency Test 20% Sight Word Test 20%

As a grade level, we are encouraging student to write every day following the writing process.

Writing is embedded across the curriculum Writing is embedded across the curriculum. We are developing independent writers through Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social studies in written response. We are developing creativity and skilled writer through various genres. We incorporate Thinking Maps in all writing. We write opinion, narrative and Informative

Thinking Maps

All 9 weeks Assessment 45% Quiz 35% Math Fact Fluency 20% In Grade 1, there are 15 topics that focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of addition, subtraction, and strategies for addition and subtraction within 20; (2) developing understanding of whole number relationships and place value, including grouping in tens and ones; (3) developing understanding of linear measurement and measuring lengths as iterating length units; and (4) reasoning about attributes of, and composing and decomposing geometric shapes. Science concepts are divided into four Bodies of Knowledge: Nature of Science, Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. Students learn hand-on through scientific methods along with weekly interactive experiments. In late Fall, we have our Annual Science Fair Night. Parents are invited to visit our school to see the experiments.

In Grade 1, there are 5 units in Social Studies: Unit 1: Civics and Government Unit 2: Economics Unit 3:Geography Unit 4 American History Unit 5: American History

Class Assessments Renaissance Accelerated Reader – (AR) Testing will begin soon. Books from media and classroom library. Passing with an 80% or better. Star Reading – Tested for reading level . Your child’s reading level goal will be 2.0 or higher by the end of the year. Istation- iReady-

Homework will be in the yellow folder on Friday. All homework will be collected on Friday. Must Do: Each week students must do 3 homework choice activities in their notebook. (one math activity, one spelling, and one writing) Fluency- Timed for one minute. It is located on the newsletter. Istation – 30 minutes weekly iReady- 30 minutes weekly May Do: Attached math pages and reading comprehension

Our enrichment time for M,T, Th, F is 9:30-10:15. Student Illness Student must be fever free for 24 hours before return to school (without the aid of Tylenol or other medication). Hand washing daily is practiced in the classroom (before lunch and after restrooms use). Hand sanitizer are located throughout the room.

LEGGINGS – SOLID COLOR: BLACK, NAVY or WHITE If worn, should be under a skirt or jumper. TOPS – SOLID COLOR: WHITE, LIGHT PINK, LIGHT BLUE, NAVY, or HUNTER GREEN Collared Polos, with or without a school emblem Long Sleeve Shirts worn under a polo JACKETS OR SWEATERS (WORN ALL DAY) SOLID COLOR: WHITE, LIGHT PINK, LIGHT BLUE, NAVY, or HUNTER GREEN  *FRIDAY’S ONLY BOTTOMS – Same as above or fully intact jeans (no tears, holes or fading) TOPS – Same as above or any Lost Lake Elementary T-Shirt Note: Students may wear jeans on days with morning temperature below 50 degrees.

Party and Snack Snacks, Parties, and Holiday Sharing Store bought goodies are acceptable. Snacks should be LOW SUGAR. If you send a snack, your child will eat it after Enrichment. If your child cannot participate in celebrations, please let me know. Birthday Parties are now limited to a treat handed out in class. Please let me know if you have any allergy concerns.
