Membean Grading Guidelines

Weekly Training Criteria At least 3 separate days of training 15 minutes per training day (45 total) 75% overall accuracy Weekly training resets on Monday

Weekly Training Grade Points Minutes* 45 4.5 X3 = 13.5 Accuracy 75 7.5 *The minutes score is multiplied by 3 so that the grade is mostly based on the time spent training. TOTAL 21.0

Extra Credit Extra credit can be earned each week by achieving greater than 75% accuracy (up to 80%). This translates to 0.1-0.5 bonus points, which has the potential of bringing the training score up by 1 point after rounding. (Try for a 22 score!)

Example of Full Credit #1 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 15m 95% 75% 55% This is the expected distribution of a Membean week. Notice how the student achieved 95% accuracy on Monday and 55% accuracy on Thursday. As long as the overall accuracy of your sessions average out to 75%, you get full credit.

Example of Full Credit #2 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 7m 15m 1m 8m 9m 5m 75% Sometimes you might need to split up your 15 minutes over the course of one day. Notice how this student did separate shorter sessions on Monday and Saturday. You can still get full credit if your shorter sessions add up to the time that you need.

Example of Full Credit #3 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 8m 6m 9m 7m 15m 75% You might need to split your sessions over the course of entire days. Notice how even though this student has mostly short sessions, they still reach the 45 minute mark by the end of the week. Just like in the previous example, you can still get full credit if your shorter sessions add up to the time that you need.

Example of Lost Credit #1 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 5m 14m 9m 6m 75% The most common way to lose credit is to not do enough minutes of vocabulary training. If you do not train for at least 45 minutes total, you will lose points. This person trained for 34 total minutes. According to the Weekly Training Grade table, this person scored a 17.7 out of 21 for the week.

Example of Lost Credit #2 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 15m 40% 80% 60% The second most common way to lose credit is to fall short of 75% overall accuracy. Notice how even though the student scored 80% on Wednesday, the week’s accuracy averages out to 60% because of their Monday and Thursday sessions. According to the Weekly Training Grade table, this person scored a 19.5 out of 21 for the week.

Example of Lost Credit #3 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 15m 15m (D) 75% If you leave the program idle for too long, it starts counting your time as “dubious minutes.” If you are marked for excessive dubious minutes, the idle time is not counted for your total minutes for the week. Since this student’s Saturday session was marked as idle time (and thus not scored), the week’s grade comes out to a 16.5 out of 21 according to the Weekly Training Grade table.

Example of Lost Credit #4 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 20m 10m 5m 75% VERY IMPORTANT! The program is designed for you to study in short chunks. Any minutes beyond 15 for a single training day can count towards your accuracy, but not towards your minutes! This is what the program considers cramming. As such, this student only received credit for 15 minutes on Monday and 15 minutes on Saturday despite doing 20 minutes on both days. According to the Weekly Training Grade table, this person scored a 18 out of 21 for the week.

Avoid Lost Credit! Make sure that you have reached the 45 minute mark for the week Keep track of your accuracy per session and make sure you have reached 75% overall Avoid excessive idle time Limit your minutes per training day to 15 (except when you need to train more to boost your accuracy)

Membean Quizzes Biweekly (Thursday or Friday) Words taken directly from your study sessions, personalized to you Taken online (Writing lab) 15 multiple choice questions, timed Scored as a 30pt. quiz Make-ups and retakes available upon request
