Welcome to Mrs. Deaton’s Class 2nd Grade Orientation

Hello, hello. It’s a brand new year Hello, hello! It’s a brand new year. Filled with fun and learning, Nothing to fear. Sit back and listen, Lend me an ear, I’m your 2nd grade teacher for the rest of this year!

All about me! This is my fourth year at NDE. I grew up in Kentucky. This is my 16th year teaching. This is my fourth year at NDE. I grew up in Kentucky. I have two children and a Frenchton (dog).

MATH Place Value to 100, eventually 1,000. Simple addition and subtraction up to 1,000. Addition with regrouping and borrowing. Word problems, fractions, geometry, measurement, graphs, & multiplication.

Language arts phonics skills parts of speech types of writing (persuasive, narrative, opinion, informative)

Reading learning types of genres decoding texts acquiring new vocabulary learning various strategies to help comprehend various texts.

Social studies Global Awareness (CANADA) Geography (map skills) Holidays People in History Economics

Life Cycles (butterflies, frogs, plants, etc..) science Weather Life Cycles (butterflies, frogs, plants, etc..) States of Matter STEM

Computers Research Typing skills Waterford Go Math! Front Row Scootpad

HOmework A phonics skill will be given each week. Words will be in their composition notebook. A daily math assignment to practice skills taught that day. Reading each night. A reading log will be sent home each night. It will need to be signed. (R.E.D. Folder)

What to do when absent Bring in an excused note the day you come back. Missed work will be in your seat pouch. Please complete assignments that I have designated as a grade and return the following day.

Classroom supplies 2 packs of pencils 2 6 packs of glue Eraser tops 3 marble composition notebooks 5 poly(plastic) folders 3 with prongs; 2 without Minimum 2 packs of crayons (one to last till Christmas and one the second half of year. 4 would be great then they can replace each nine weeks!)

Extra supplies Kleenex Lysol or Clorox wipes thin black Expo markers Kleenex Lysol or Clorox wipes Gallon zipper bags (Hefty) Happy Meal toys, candy, small prizes for prize box
