Presentation transcript:

Ms. Passer’s News from Room 106 Week of: September 12th, 2016 What a FANTASTIC first few days back at school! We are going to have a phenomenal year together! Again, these newsletters will be sent home every Friday for the following week’s upcoming events. We began Topic 1 today (Sept. 9th) which is understanding multiplication and division of whole numbers. Our lesson today (1.1) discussed all about multiplication as repeated addition. This topic will include 7 total lessons. Great start today with our math journey! We will begin our first unit in reading which discusses story structure and summarizing. The story selection of the week is, “A Fine, Fine School.” In grammar, we will focus on subjects and predicates. Vocabulary Words: principal, strolled, proud, worried, soared, announced, fine, certainly Every Monday and Wednesday we will learn different things in social studies and every Tuesday and Thursday, the students get to hop on over to Mrs. Braaten’s room and learn all sorts of things about science! This week in social studies, we will start discussing communities and in science, it’s all about the solar system! I am SO impressed with the skills my terrific third graders brought from second grade within their cursive – way to go and keep it up! We will continue to practice this as much as we can. We will also focus on writing to narrate this week. Spelling words for this week (short vowel): crop, plan, thing, smell, shut, sticky, spent, lunch, pumpkin, clock, gift, class, skip swing (challenge words: hospital, fantastic) **Happy belated birthday to Kyara who’s birthday was on September 4th. We’ll celebrate on Monday!
